Renown Reggae MC, Radio and TV personality and Mary Njambi aka Jahmby Koikai has passed away after a long battle with endometriosis.
According to Senator Gloria Orwoba Njambi passed on Monday night.
In a heartfelt message Senator Orwoba wrote; “My heart is broken. It is not fair. We lost Fyah Mummah Jahmby Koikai last night. Our warrior is gone ,” .
Her death comes just days after she appealed for blood O positive donations after being admitted at Nairobi Hospital.
Jahmby revealed in the past that she started battling endometriosis since she was the age of 13 . Her battle with endometriosis transformed her into a fierce advocate for women’s health. She courageously shared her journey on social media, detailing her struggles, treatments, and the emotional toll of living with a chronic illness.
However her condition worsened in 2015 where she started experiencing lung collapses.
This led to numerous surgeries and prolonged hospital stays. The medical treatments available in Kenya were insufficient, prompting Koikai to seek specialised care abroad.
Throughout her treatment, Koikai continued to raise awareness about endometriosis, emphasising the importance of early diagnosis, proper medical care, and the need for greater research and resources.
Endometriosis is a painful disorder where tissue similar to the lining inside the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing severe pain and complications.
Many have taken to their social to mourn her death terming her as a warrior who will continue to live on and shall be remembered forever for putting on a good fight.
Njambi gained fame hosting reggae shows on Metro FM and QFM, and organized performances with her band, Earthzone.
Njambi leaves behind a mom and a younger sister who she once described as a ‘Tower of Strength’.
Njambi had a good fight, a real story that we have seen unfold, but she always kept strong. Loved reggae music like nothing else. Finally, she bows out. May she rest in peace. pic.twitter.com/Ry0TZZj5AC
