The former Nairobi governor Gideon Mbuvi popularly known as Mike Sonko is the reason the why Kenyan female football team, the Harambee starlets, will be smiling their way to a hefty cash prize.
The seasoned politician celebrated the team’s win against Cameroon’s official football team by gifting his home team Sh250,000 on Tuesday.
The tense match saw Harambee starlets beating Cameroon 4-3 on penalties in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers. The game which was played in Nyayo stadium saw Harambee stars proceeding to the second stage of qualifiers.
Mbuvi was among the A-list celebrities who arrived in the stadium to enjoy the spirited match. Taking to his X account, the father to many shared photos and videos from the match. The team can be seen dancing and chanting cheerfully the politicians name. However, one video caught the eyes of hawk-eyed Kenyans online.
In the video, the controversial politician is seen exchanging phone numbers with one female player then he proceeds to send Sh250,000 via mobile money transfer as the other girls cheer on.
His caption congratulated the women on their very much deserved win before adding that his good luck charm played a part in the historical win.

Typical of Kenyans online, they flocked the philanthropist’s comment section some to give out their opinions on the match while others heaped praises on the former city boss for his patriotism.
