Wrangles at the ruling party, UDA, are escalating, with supporters of the sitting Secretary General Cleophas Malala, storming the party’s Ngong Road-based offices.

The crowd could be heard chanting pro-Malala slogans, standing in solidarity with him.

Police however remained vigilant in ensuring that the crowd doesn’t access the premises.

Also captured was the new self-declared SG Joe Khalende, who appeared to have been injured.

Several UDA members, led by Khalende are pushing for Malala’s removal, accusing him “of sabotaging the party’s progress and the Broad-Based Government formed by party leader President William Ruto and his ODM counterpart Raila Odinga.”

“Malala has abdicated his role and duty as the SG of the ruling party. The critical role of the SG of the UDA party is the spokesperson of the party; he communicates and initiates meetings on behalf of the party. Clearly, Malala has joined our opponents. He is supporting the TAWE movement and agendas which contradict the ruling party,” said Khalende.

“He has gone against our party leader…he is on the forefront against the formation of a broad-based government and I am here to confirm that he is no longer the SG of the UDA party. I Joe Khalende will be taking over as the SG of the UDA party.”

There has also been a viral resignation letter doing rounds on social media, purportedly from Malala.

The former senator has however rubbished the resignation claims terming them propaganda.

“Ignore propaganda. The party is stable and focussed on helping President @WilliamsRuto achieve his agenda for Kenya. Chama iko Imara,” he said.
