John Jomo Kenyatta first born son to  Kenya’s former president Uhuru Kenyatta  has now taken legal action and sued  the government for revoking his gun license and repossessing all his fire arms.

Jommo who in his petition claims that  his rights were violated has taken the bold step just a few days after government officials raided his home in Karen to  and repossessed his firearms prompting his father to intervene.

Through his Lawyer ,Fred Ngatia,John Jommo is seeking to have the government withdraw the directive that saw the license to his firearms revoked.

The former first Son says he followed the legal  due process in acquiring all the firearms he owns.

Earlier ,The Highcourt had issued orders barring The Firearms Licensing Board from revoking Jomo’s firearm license or demanding that he surrenders his firearm without following the due process of law.

“Leave is, therefore, granted in terms of prayer 2 and 3 of the summons. For purposes of preservation of the substratum of the suit, leave granted shall operate as stay of 1st and 2nd respondents’ decision seeking to revoke the applicant’s firearm license or demanding surrender of firearm license no 0000530 or the firearm held under that license without following the due process as set out in the Firearms Act,” High Court judge Jairus Ngaah said.

John further revealed that upon inquiry the officers could not state any reason behind their actions neither did they produce a court order.

“On inquiry as to the reasons, if any, that had caused an abrupt demand for my firearms, the offices feigned ignorance” Read part of his statement.

Jomo now wants his License restored as he terms the revocation process illegal since he was not presented with a complaint neither was his case heard before action was taken.

“The grounds upon which a firearm license can be revoked are provided in section 5(7) of the Firearms Act, which when ,read with section 7 (2) (a) (v) of the fair administrative action act, cannot be invoked without being allowed to be heard,” continued the statement.

The Kenyatta family was recently ordered to surrender all guns in their possession by Monday, July 24 to the chief licensing officer.

This comes after the government withdrew security details to former First lady and Uhuru’s mother Mama Ngina Kenyatta. A move that prompted Kenyatta to share his security with his family members. Something he says  puts his family members in danger.

Uhuru Kenyatta has however  promised to fight for his family against the government till the bitter end.
