Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago was arrested hours after a Nakuru court issued a warrant of his arrest after he failed to show up for plea taking.

The senator was arrested at his residence in Eldoret and taken to DCI regional offices in Nakuru for grilling.

Mandago, Joseph Kipkemoi, Meshak Robot and Joshua Kipkemoi are among the key officials involved in the Finland and Canada Overseas Education Program which has been on the limelight since early this month.

The officials have been accused of misappropriating Ksh 1.1 billion from Kenya Commercial Bank in Eldoret registered under Uasin Gishu Education trust Fund which was allocated for university fees that would cater for students in the program.

The scandal has caused an uproar all over the country especially since after the senator and other county officials in Uasin Gishu held a meeting with the affected parents and students to solve the matter.

In Kakamega, most of the residents agree with the arrest of senator Mandago.

Joseph Wafula who is a trader in Kakamega applauded the move saying that it will ensure that there is transparency in the government.

“This is a big step for justice in Kenya. If the government continues to make its leaders more accountable, there will be more transparency in the government,” he said.

Some however still think that Kenya is still far from serving justice in its departments.

“No money will be refunded and the senator will be released. A bond will be issued an the case will fade away just like other money scandals,” Oyamo said

The senator was arrested and grilled by detectives from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for his participation in the scandal which happened while he was a governor.
