Super Metro, a renown transport company in Nairobi has released a statement following allegations that contributions towards the funeral their employee Gerald Mwangi aka Makanga Bae, who was a tout, had been mismanaged.
There has been a buzz around social media after Mwangi’s family revealed that they never received contributions, with one Muturi, another Super Metro employee, being at the centre of the controversy.
“Muturi had said that he would buy a coffin worth Ksh. 50,000. He had also said he would cater for food worth Ksh. 85,000. Today, as you can see, there’s neither food nor water.”
“What a shame! And you’ve been the ones publicising us on the internet. All this has been caused by Muturi, Kajuju and Teddy. I’ve left you in the hands of God…” Gerald’s mother told the mourners.
Super Metro has however confirmed that contributions from their company were handed the family directly and not a third party.
“We would like to clarify that the mother, aunt and uncle of Gerald Mwangi came to our office and received the company’s contribution directly. Therefore any other group formed to collect funds for the burial is not affiliated with Super Metro. While appreciate the efforts of those who stepped up to support the bereaved, we want to ensure transparency regarding the nature of these contribution,” the transport line’s chairman Nelson Mwangi said.
Mwangi added that he would follow up on the matter and get to the bottom of it to ensure that their staff are accorded respect.
He also condoled with the bereaved family for the loss of their kin.
“I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss. We share your and regret the circumstances surrounding this event,” Mwnagi stated.
