A somber mood has engulfed Kabartegan village in Bureti, Kericho county, after bodies of two children, a boy and girl, were found in a pit.

The two are alleged to have been murdered by their mother who has since went missing.

According to an uncle of the deceased, the kids’ mother came home for her kids, who were living with her mum and said she wanted to live with them.

Later on, the bodies of the two were found in a banana pit and it is unknown if the woman also died or if she is at large.

The two children belonged to Brendah Cheptoo, a single mum who had left them in her mother’s care.

Kelvin Kipchirchir, a resident, shared that some people speculated that Cheptoo may have had differences with her baby daddy.

“The bodies were decomposed, and we are waiting for detectives so that we can know more,” said Kipchirchir, who is also a neighbor.

No one knows her whereabouts, and neighbours are also wondering if she died alongside the kids or if she killed the two, aged eight and six years old and took off.

“I was working at home and realized that there was a bad smell coming from the banana plantations and dogs were also fighting over something. Upon moving closer, realized that there were bodies covered in blankets. Our sister came and took the kids,” he added.
