Cabinet Secretaries and MPs aligned to the ruling party, Kenya Kwanza, are in Naivasha for a national retreat and consultative meeting that will be chaired by President William Ruto.
The retreat started on Monday and it is aimed on checking the Kenya Kwanza Score card since they assumed office in September 2022.
The meeting will also focus on plans on food security, jobs, economic empowerment, health, housing and social protection. The retreat is expected to review the performance of all ministries and state offices and map out the priorities for the 2024 that will be codified in ministerial performance contract.
The retreat will further give the government an opportunity to evaluate achievements that have been made so far.
Speaking during the Monday session, President Ruto said that the government advertised 2,500 foreign nursing jobs but the Kenya kwanza MPs told him that they are not aware of the said job opportunities abroad.
“Nobody has told us,” one of the MPs told the president leaving, him surprised how the leaders are not aware of the advertised jobs.
“I have heard some of you say you are not aware, where do you want me to stand and tell you, which volume do you want so that you can hear?” Ruto wondered.
“They were advertised in the press, I have talked about this thing in every meeting. When you are seated those meetings, after that aren’t you supposed to find out where these vacancies are?” he further posed.
The head of state noted that MPs were only looking for jobs for their friends who lost political seats while forgetting about those who elected them.
“When I visit your counties you tell me about people who lost elections and who need jobs, you do not talk about the rest yet there are opportunities. We must work together to change Kenya,” he said.
Out of the 2500 nursing jobs, only 500 candidates submitted their applications.
“As we are here, we still need 2000 nurses to bring the names, an intelligent person will hear this and do what they must do. Your constituents will take a lot of offence when they realise that there are opportunities yet nobody has come to them. Someone has to do some homework,” he said
