Ruai OCS Duncan Otieno will be spending his night in the same cells he puts criminals in for attempting to break out four revelers after being offered Sh3000 as a bribe.

The revelers in question had been arrested earlier for charges of being drunk and disorderly.

Taking it as another normal day in the job the OCS demanded a bribe from the culprits unaware that his day of reckoning had finally come.

“Police officers from EACC Nairobi arrested the OCS on the allegation that he had received Ksh3,000 treated money to secure the release of four prisoners who were arrested on Friday, November 3,” police said in a statement.

As a result of extorting bribes, Otieno was fetched by his colleagues and taken to the EACC headquarters in Nairobi where he awaits trial.

However, Otieng’s arraignment in court was not given a specified date since the anti-corruption body asked for the time to carry out further independent investigations on the OCS.

This has given the Anti-corruption body leeway to bend the law that dictates that the accused should be presented in court  24 hours after his arrest.

According to the police, it was brought to their attention that the OCS had earlier demanded Ksh 5000 to aid the prisoners to escape.

However, after bargaining, he settled for Ksh 2000 less than his original claim.

If the senior officer is found guilty of bribery, upon conviction he will be liable to either a fine of up to Ksh 5 million or be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years, or both.

The EACC officers promised to also take action against the four revelers who remained in custody after their escape plan went sour.

“They are in custody and awaiting to be arraigned in court on Monday, November 6,” the officers said
