Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has sent words of relief to those who missed the 2023 KCPE exam due to various reasons.

During the release of KCPE 2023 results in South B,  the CS announced that all the candidates who missed this year’s exams will be given another chance to sit for a special examination in January 2024, to ensure that they don’t miss a chance to be admitted to form one.

“To ensure that no candidate misses out in joining Form One from the final 2023 KCPE examinations cohort, the Ministry of Education will conduct through mapping of any of those who may have failed to sit their examination this year in order to administer a Special Examination in January 2024,” Machogu noted.

He also went ahead to reveal that the number of candidates who failed to take their exam was 9,354.

The 2023 KCPE exam was the last to be done, after 39 years, as the country transitions to CBC education system.

It was also noted that 1.4 million candidates undertook the KCPE and 1.2 million sat for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams marking the transition to the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang who was also present assured timely payment to the KCPE and KCSE examiners. He stated that the ministry is currently collaborating with the National Treasury to expedite first-term capitation payments for smooth school reopening in January 2024.

“We have paid all our examiners of KCPE marking. We also want to ensure my colleagues in KCSE that we shall ensure that they are paid within the time that is required of us to pay,” Kipsang said.

Kipsang additionally, congratulated the cohort present in ensuring the exams run smoothly.
