Ian Njoroge has found himself on the wrong side of the law after he was captured assaulting a traffic police officer at Mirema on Sunday.
He was arrested on Sunday night and was subjected to intense questioning where he disclosed the motive behind his shocking behaviour.
The suspect was detained at his residence in the Jacaranda neighbourhood of Kayole, Nairobi, on Sunday evening during an operation conducted by the Nairobi area Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
In a video circulating online, a handcuffed Njoroge was subjected to questions including the occupation of his parents
“My father is a teacher at Mavoko Boys Secondary School and my mother is a businesswoman selling lab equipment,” Ian Njoroge answered.
After that one of the Officers inquired about his training to fight police officers.
“I have not trained. I have never hit an officer before. Today was my first time,” the tensed suspect said.
During their tense exchange of questions and answers, one officer asked Njoroge how he mustered the courage to tactfully assault a police officer, prompting Njoroge to disclose the reason behind the confrontation.
“I was just angry. We were not understanding each other because he wanted a lot of money which I could not get…” he said as the interrogating officer quickly interjected “What are you saying?”
Shortly after that, the officer commanded Njoroge to insult himself, which he complied without fail.
“Sema wewe ni wazimu (Say you are a fool),” said the officer.
“Mimi ni wazimu kabisa (I am a fool).”
Another officer said, “Wewe ni ng’ombe (you’re a cow)” with another calling him a dog.
The interrogation has however sparked concerns among Kenyans. Below are some of their reactions;
Omwamba: Before we blame him. Let’s ask ourselves why would 19 Years old Ian Njoroge beat 45 years old traffic police officer like this? Instead of taking him to Kasarani Police station, take him to a mental hospital. The police should also not harras him until he’s proven guilty.
King Fred:The Kenya police should interrogate themselves as to why a 19 year old Ian Njoroge would be so triggered to beat up one of them instead of continuing with their violent behaviour in trying to ‘teach’ him a lesson.
Tony Karomo:Ian Njoroge must have a reason to beat that cop at Kamiti Road. You cannot just start beating a policeman, here is to juggle your memories
