President William Ruto has alleged that Comedians Timothy Kimani alias Njugush and Eddie Butita make more money every month compared to his Salary.
During the National drama festival on Friday June 2 at Statehouse, the president insinuated that content creators are making good money.
“That’s why we have Njugush around. We have Eddie Butita around too. This are our great artists who today are monetising their content. This two young men are making more money than my salary. Msiwaone hivi. These are serious entrepreneurs, ” he said.
He further congratulated the content creators for setting a good pace for younger generation in the content creating industry.
“Congratulations for the blessings, and congratulations for being the example to many of our young people and knowing that the creative space, the YouTube space is available for jobs for our young people,” he added.
The commander in chief also thanked the YouTube team in Kenya for accepting to work with the government to support and nurture local talent.
“Youtube has been a partner with us. When we asked them that they allow Kenyans to register and monetise their accounts, It was a difficult decision but let me say thank you very much because they have come through for us,” Ruto said.
Njugush and Butita had been invited to talk to students and young people who graced the event.
President Ruto’s remarks come amidst ongoing talks on the 2023 financial bill that seeks to tax content creators 15% of their total Income.
