The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) arrested a 30-year-old woman in Kitale, Trans Nzoia county on Wednesday for forging and selling pseudo police clearance certificates.
The DCI identifying the woman as Noline Awuor Odika has said that she posed as a crime records officer.
The sleuths further revealed that her husband Keith Wanyama Yamame, an ex-GSU officer had been her accomplice in the mission.
According to detectives the partners in crime used different phone numbers to communicate with their victims and they charged Sh3000 for every fake certificate.
“Jointly with her ex-GSU hubby, the lovers in crime used about 11 subscriber SIM cards to communicate and receive money from their targets, whom they issued with fake certificates at a Ksh. 3,000 fee. Notably, the certificates either bore forged signatures or those lifted from previous office holders who are long retired,” the DCI said in a statement on Thursday.
It is reported that Wanyama fled after being cornered by the DCI leaving his wife and Subaru behind.
“Yamame sprinted into thin air braving the evening shivers, leaving behind a wife and a Subaru car that police detained,” said the DCI.
A manhunt for Yamame is currently underway while Noline Odika remains in Police custody pending arraignment.
