Former Liverpool boss, Rafa Benitez has likened the scintillating form of Manchester United target, Victor Osimhen to superstar Fernando Torres.
Benitez juxtaposed the similarities between the Napoli forward and former Liverpool, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid striker Torres.
“Osimhen reminds me of Torres,” he told Pazzi Di Fanta. “A very fast and strong player. But when we talk about Napoli it’s not right to talk about a single player, the Azzurri’s work is a great team.”
Torres scored 262 goals across his illustrious career, netting 85 of those in the Premier League.
Only time will tell whether Osimhen will follow the Spaniard’s footsteps and ply his trade in England.
Osimhen has lit up Serie A this season, helping Napoli to a 15 point lead at the top of the table.
The Nigerian has scored 18 league goals so far, with only Erling Haaland having scored more in Europe.
His form has earned him the interest of Manchester United and Chelsea, who are said to be eyeing up a summer move for the 24-year-old.
However, Napoli are said to be resistant to letting Osimhen go, with the club president insisting their prized asset is not for sale.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian international is unlikely to be cheap, with the Serie A giants expected to demand at least £100m for the striker.
When asked if he could leave Naples, Osimhen refused to rule out a move at the end of the season.
“When you are doing so well, top clubs around the world are watching, mostly in the top five leagues,” Osimhen told ESPN.
“And to be able to attract interest from these top clubs shows that I am doing great and it gives me the motivation to do even more for myself and my team.
“But I am focused on Napoli right now and they have the final say. I just want to help my team to win matches and win trophies. At the end of the season, we will see what is going to happen, but that is not up to me. It is for the club to decide.”
