Tigania East sub-county commander Emmanuel Kiplagat was injured alongside other police officers while in a mission to reclaim stolen cows in Doldol, Laikipia County.

The mission that happened on Friday March 15 saw one local losing his life amid a tussle to recover the stolen cattle.

Kiplagat was leading the operation to retrieve livestock that had been reported stolen from Matabithi, Meru County, three weeks ago.

The bandits getting wind of the operation struck shooting and killing the man who is believed to be the owner of the animals.

Police said the operation began at Tassia Hills where they were able to  recover 300 cows.

Police say they pushed the cattle for around three hours when the team was intercepted and attacked on the way.

The bandits however managed to overpower the officers taking back the cattle into their possession.

Kiplagat sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder during the confrontation  and is currently recuperating at a local hospital according to police.

He alongside the other injured officers, were later airlifted to Nairobi for medical attention, as per police reports.

This attack comes at a time when the country is bleeding from banditry attacks that have seen locals of the Northern part of the country live in fear.

The last attack in Laikipia County that happened last month saw  two private security rangers attached to Laikipia Nature and Conservancy attacked leaving one dead and the other one injured.

The over ten armed attackers shot at the two who were driving in one of the vehicles killing the security ranger on the spot.

The deceased identified as Modestus Juma was shot on the head and died on the spot.
