Notices of impeachment have been tabled against 3 County Executive Members and 4 County Public Service Board members at the Bomet County Assembly.

The CECs, Erick Ngetich (Roads) Kipngetich Kirui (Administration) and Andrew Sigey(Finance) are accused of gross misconduct, incompetence and misappropriation of funds.

CPSB Chair Alexander Ngeno, his Vice Millicent Soi and members David Tuwei and Isaiah Kipyegon on the other hand are accused of unfair employment of staff.

Addressing the press, Speaker Cosmas Korir pointed out that the notices were procedurally submitted hence a special sitting will be held on Monday.

“A special sitting be held on Monday to debate the motions. Thereafter, a committee consisting of between 5 and 13 members will be formed where the CECs will appear and a recommendation given to the assembly,” he said.

According to him, each of the CECs will get a chance to appear before a 5-13 member committee after which the committee will submit its recommendation to the assembly.

Korir observed that the matter will come to a close in case the CECs resign, adding that sufficient evidence has been tabled against them.

“If any of the CECs feels that their reputation is important and tenders his resignations, the impeachment will not continue. Here, the governor will nominate another individual to the docket,” added korir.

Residents welcomed the move, further urging MCAs to shift their focus to Chief Officers (COs) whom they accused of corruption, arrogance and misuse of office in contradiction to chapter 6 of the constitution.

“We are happy about what has taken place. Our MCAs have been in deep slumber but we are happy that today they woke up. It was clear that the mentioned CECs could not account for funds allocated to their dockets. Even the money allocated for the purchase of vehicles cannot be traced. We have also heard that someone in the public service board employed his relatives including his son in law. We hereby invite EACC to take over the matter,” said some residents who had gathered outside the county assembly.
