Phone numbers of top Citizen TV anchors were leaked, just like those of politicians including the president’s, with the aim of giving them sleepless nights for extensively covering the anti-government protests.
Amid the malicious leak, a #Occupy Citizen TV, was also trending on social media.
Some of those who were affected include Linus Kaikai, Yvonne Okwara and Mashirima Kapombe. The journalists however received nothing but pure love from Kenyans who hailed them for their work. The journalists did not shy from sharing the heart-warming messages they received.
“What a day! Absolutely pleasure hearing from you all today. Shukran sana kwa salamu!,” Yvonne Okwara captioned the messages she received.

Mashirima on the other hand noted that the heartwarming messages received are not what those behind the leaking expected.
“I don’t think this is what they expected… Thank you for all the kind and warm messages. You all give me hope that Kenya will triumph and we are better together; known & unknown, rich or poor, Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X. God bless you ❤️ and our great country 🇰🇪,” she said.

“My fellow Kenyans, I am overwhelmed by your countless messages of love, kindness and encouragement. This was certainly not the intended outcome of that early morning ‘brief’,” Kaikai said on his part.
