After a crackdown on Quiver’s Lounge over noise pollution, Nairobi County Chief Executive Officer in charge of Environment Geoffrey Mosiria is now targeting a church in Kawangware, that has proved to be a nuisance to locals.
Apparently, the church, Jesus Revival Centre, plays loud music from all week long from 6pm to 9 am the next day.
Mosiria visited the area on Tuesday evening with the affected locals sharing their predicament with him. One of the women revealed that she is forced to move her children to a quiet place elsewhere on a daily basis for them to be able to concentrate on their homework.
“We are unable to sleep. We have tried demonstrating, we have burned tires on the road, we have even gone to the chief,” she said, adding that what is usually played at 3am is nothing compared to what playing at the time Mosiria had visited.
“We have no peace at all,” she said.
Additionally, the locals have been victims of robbery, as the loud music provides an ample time for criminals to conduct their activities. They are also unable to communicate through mobile phones when the music is on.
Their several attempts to reach a consensus with the church have proved futile.
Morara said they county government has since served the church with a formal notice and legal action will be taken if they fail to comply.
“We have issued a formal notice to the church, demanding a reduction in noise levels. Should they fail to comply, we will take appropriate legal measures to address this issue,” he said.
He added that the church played loud music although only a few church members were present. According to him, the locals began complaining in December 2023, reporting the matter at Muthangari Police Station.
The police however took no action and instead detained some of them, as the church continued with its operations.
