Nairobi Birdman

Rodgers Oloo Magudha, popurlaly known as Nairobi Birdman, has revealed that he ended up in the streets to find a life and stop being a burden to his relatives.

Speaking to SPM Buzz, he said that he comes from a background that is not well off and also the desire to get freedom contributed to his street life.

“In the streets, there is freedom but not that much. You can stay outside till morning and no one will question you as long as you are doing the right thing,” he said.

According to him, he has been rescuing birds since 2022. He has so far rescued 4 birds, three hawks and a crow, but unfortunately one of the hawks died after an accident.

“If I get a stranded bird or one that has fallen off the nest I rescue them. Most of them I get them when they are young,” he said.

Birdman says he doesn’t have any shelter for the birds and they stay where he stays. His passion to assist the birds has however subjected him to negativity making his life challenging as some claim he is using witchcraft,

He however denied being a witch, adding that his bond with birds should’t tie him to any tribe.

“Challenging, discrimination. Kuambiwa mambo mob. Ni nature tu, sijui mambo na uchawi, kabila au nini. Kwanza mimi ni tribeless. It is about nature, conserving the environment. Hizi birds zinaplay a big role kwa eco system so hio ndio inaniinspire the most kuzitake care,” he explained.

Last weekend, during the Men’s Mental Walk that was organized by Oga Obinna, Birdman was gifted a piece of land. Speaking on the subject, he said that he is hopeful that his life will soon  change

“I know the plan is going on well. They wanted the house to be first constructed before I move in. I am 100% ready,” he said.
