Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, who moved the motion to impeach Rigathi Gachagua, has broken silence after the Senate’s decision on the matter.
Mutuse took to X saying the Senate and the National Assembly had made him proud by finally removing Gachagua from office.
“I’m a proud Kenyan tonight. Thank you colleagues at @NAssemblyKE and @Senate_KE for approving my impeachment charges against former DP Hon.
@rigathiGachagua,” he said.
Following the decision of the Houses, Mutuse noted that Kenya will never be the same again.
“Those of us in leadership must henceforth leave to the letter and spirit of of our Constitution and Laws. I’m proud that I go to the annuls of history as the first Kenyan to table a motion that has impeached a sitting Deputy President. It took bravery and courage. It was a duty for my countrymen. I love Kenya. Mbele iko sawa,” he said.

Mutuse preferred 11 charges against Gachagua including gross violation of several Articles of the Constitution, insubordination of the Presidency, Gross misconduct, Unlawful acquisition of property through corruption among others.
His ouster from office has already been gazette and now President William Ruto is expected to nominate a new Deputy President.
“Senators have this night voted to impeach H.E. @rigathi, Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya. Senators found him guilty on 5 out of 11 grounds brought against him by the National Assembly. Effectively, H.E. Rigathi Gachagua ceases to hold office,” Senate Speaker Amason Kingi said.
