Police in Nigeria have arrested two of actor Mr Ibu’s children.

The two, who have been identified as Oyeabuchi Daniel Okafor(Ibu’s son)  and  his adopted daughter Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu were arrested for allegedly stealing money that was contributed for the actor’s medication.

They are said to have unlawfully gained access to Ibu’s phone and acquired his bank details, leading to the loss of 55 million naira ($60,700).

The money is said to have been part of the funds that well wishers and fans contributed for Ibu’s treatment following his lengthy hospitalisation in 2023. Ibu underwent five surgical procedures with one of his legs being amputated twice.

According to media outlets from the country, Daniel and Chioma were planning to escape to UK.

The police have since recovered 50 million Naira of the stolen money.

In an update on his health status that was issued on December 16, 2023, the family denied claims both of Mr. Ibu’s legs had eventually been amputated, while explaining the nature of his illness.

“First we will like to state that our daddy wasn’t amputated on both legs but only one. The first amputation didn’t completely correct his health predicament so the doctors had to go ahead to amputate same leg further to ensure we didn’t loose him.

“Daddy’s cause of sickness is also not diabetes but he’s had constant clotting of the blood in his leg ( diseased blood vessels) and other health challenges posing risk to his life , therefore the need for the amputation,” the statement read in part.
