The ongoing Gen z protests are aimed at removing President William Ruto from power, Nominated MP Jackson Kosgey now states.

Kosgey says some youths confided to him that they were using the Finance Bill and the high cost of living as excuses to attain their goal.

Speaking during a talk show, the MP says although the group claims to be leaderless, there is evidence that they are funded and managed from abroad.

“These demos had nothing to do with the finance Bill or cost of living. They are aimed at removing President Ruto from office. The youths found me in parliament and they told me their ultimate goal was for Ruto to resign,” he said.

He narrated his encounter with the group, also claiming that the protestors were mobilized from various universities, some of them being beyond the youth’s age bracket.

He commended President William Rutto for withdrawing the Bill, saying the protestors intended to raid statehouse, which would have led to many deaths, had the bill been ascended to.

Kosgey however rooted for peace, further urging Kenyans to allow for dialogue in order to address the problems facing the country.

“I want to thank the president for not signing the bill. We met the president on Wednesday and we advised him not to ascend to the bill. Gen z were waiting for Ruto to sign the bill into law for them to raid statehouse and this would have become a disaster,” he said, adding “For now, i ask Kenyans to maintain peace and give dialogue a chance so as to address the problems facing the country,”.

This as police ban all protests in the Nairobi CBD, noting that organizers have no leaders who can help in managing the events.
