The Ministry of Labor has reiterated its commitment to avail local and foreign employment opportunities to address the high rate of unemployment in the country.
Principal Secretary Shaddrack Mwadime says they will partner with the National Employment Authority, Industrial Training Authority and other agencies to attain the goal.
He urged locals to visit the National Employment Authority website, where the government has announced over 350,000 vacancies.
“We are finalising a labour migration agreement. We have had two rounds of negotiations, the first in Germany and the second one recently,” he said.
He promised to organize a Job Fare in the area, bringing all parastatals and approved recruitment agencies where locals will be sensitized on the available jobs.
Mwadime also observed that all skilled individuals will soon be certified by NITA, adding that the government has already signed bilateral agreements with Germany and other nations on export of human labour.
“It’s true the rate of unemployment in the country is high. We have come to appraise the youth concerning the available opportunities in foreign countries not only for non-skilled labour but also skilled,” added Mwadime.
The PS spoke during the graduation of 52 youths in Sotik who graduated from the National Industrial Training Authority, thanks to area NGDF sponsorship.
Area MP Francis Sigei assured the programme, which is part of his promise to empower locals, will continue.
