You can try anything you want, but right now, Marcus Rashford cannot be stopped. Just as Manchester United looked like they would drop points against Barcelona, up popped Rashford with his 4th Europa League goal to get Erik ten Hag’s side to a draw.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was full of praise for Marcus Rashford following his man of the match performance against Barcelona in the Europa League.
He told Manutd.com: “He is so unstoppable at this moment, such a high belief for scoring goals, which we are happy with of course. But credit to the team as they get him every time in the right position.”
It’s not just Premier League sides who have found Marcus Rashford impossible to deal with since the World Cup. The England forward has been in scintillating form, and Barcelona found this out to their peril.
There had been glimpses in the first half, but Barcelona’s opener appeared to spur him into action. First there was the equalizer, drilled like a rocket at Ter Stegen’s near post, and then there was the dart down the byline to create United’s second.
Barcelona didn’t know what to do against the forward, who caused problems for both Kounde and Alonso at the back. The one blot on his copybook was a wild effort from the right of the box at 2-2, when many would have backed him to find the target.
Rashford has been in stellar form following the World Cup. He has now made 30 goal contributions for United this season including 22 goals.
He has already matched his best-ever goal tally for a single campaign and United fans will be hoping that he can continue the sublime run.
United took the game to Barcelona in the first leg of the Europa League knockout play-off and they should be favorites next week.
