Award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has opened up about her break up with Selema Masekela, a renown TV host and Sports Commentator.

The 40-year old actress, in a n interview with Net-a- Porter, recalled about the painful mopment, adding that it was a lesson and she wanted to be real about it.

“I was living in a lot of pain and heartbreak. I looked at the environment of my social media and thought I don’t want to be a part of this illusion that everything is always coming up roses. Surely there is a lesson for me to learn in this, and I just want to be real about it,” she said.

“It was because I felt sure about it,” she further stated, explaining why she chose to go public about it.

Lupita went public about her relationship with Selema in December 2022. That was the first time she was publicising hr romantic life as she had dated privately previously. She told Net-a-Porter that she wouldn’t publicise her future relationships.

“That was very, very sage of me. I’m going back to those days, by the way,” she said.

Despite being heartbroken, Lupita is hopeful that she will find love again.

“Our purpose in life is to love,” she said. “And so you have to get back in it.”

The actress, known for her roles in Black Panther and 12 years a slave, announced that she parted ways with Masekela in October 2023.

“I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception. I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, “Whatever, my life is better this way,” Lupita said in her break up post

In December 2023, it was however reported that the actress is dating a Canadian actor Joshua Jackson.
