According to DCI boss Mohammed Amin, the suspect was arrested in Soweto at around 3am on Monday morning.
“In our latest efforts to deliver justice to the Kware dumping site matter and for us to give closure to the devastated families, we have this morning arrested the prime suspect known as Collins Jomaisha Khalusha, 33-years old.
“He was arrested outside a club, where he had gone to watch the Europe 2024 Finals. His pursuit and arrest followed very thorough forensic analysis of a mobile phone that belonged to one of the victims, namely Josephine Mulongo Owino, where some mobile money transactions were conducted on the very day Josephine went missing,” Amin said.
Upon his arrest, the suspect led police officers to his single room rental house in Kware, which is about 100m from the crime scene.
A quick search in the house led to the recovery of 24 Airtel sim cards holders with new simcards, 8 smartphones and 2 feature phones, a laptop and a hard drive, two flat drives, a memory card, a machete believed to have been used in dismembering victims, 12 nylon sacks similar to the ones used to staff bodies at the dumping site, industrial rubber gloves, 6 IDs for men and 2 IDs for women.
During interrogations, the suspect confessed to have lured and killed 42 women, dumping their bodies at the dumping site.
“All murdered between 2022 and as recent as last day 11th of July 2024. Unfortunately, the suspect alleged that his first victim was his wife, namely Imelda Judith Khalenya, whom he strangled to death before dismembering her body and disposing it at the site,” Amin said.
