Residents of Bureti in Kericho County have piled pressure on President William Rutto to re-nominate Stella Soi Langat, days after parliament rejected her name.
Led by Ann Kimetto they termed Langat’s rejection as a dishonor, since she is well qualified having served at various capacities.
Speaking in Litein town, Kimetto blamed leaders from the county serving at the appointment committee for doing little to push through Mrs. Langat’s approval.
“Stella Langat comes from here and we know she well qualified to hold that position. Mrs Langat’s rejection is a disrespect to us as residents of Bureti and we want to ask President Rutto to nominate her again,” said Kimetto.
Nancy Langat on her part dismissed reasons given by majority leader Kimani Ichungwa, stating that her career rise from an Assistant county commissioner indicates she is focused and hardworking.
“The claims by Ichungwa that Stella Langat lacks understanding about the docket are not true. Mrs Langat was hired as an assistant County Commissioner after graduation from university and has rose through the ranks to become the director of administration at the Ministry of interior. We want the position given back to Mrs. Langat and nobody else,” stated Langat.
The residents vowed not to allow the position to be given to someone else, adding that they fully supported President Rutto during the last elections.
This as leaders from the county, led by Governor Eric Mutai and county MP Beatrice Kemei expressed confidence President William Rutto will give back the position to the county.
Mrs. Langat, who serves as Director of Administration at the Ministry of Interior Headquarters, had been nominated to the Gender, Arts and Heritage docket, before the parliamentary committee on appointment rejected her name for not being conversant with the docket.
