Meru Members of County Assembly have once again impeached governor Kawira Mwangaza.
49 of them supported her impeachment in a vote that was taken on Thursday, with a heavy police deployment. 17 MCA voted against her impeachment while three did not avail themselves to vote on the motion.
Accusations that saw MCAs send her packing include; Gross violations of the constitution, gross misconduct and abuse of office.
The impeachment motion was filed by Nominated MCA Zipporah Kinya and now her fate lies in the hands of the Senate.
Following her impeachment, Mwangaza has expressed positivity that she will continue serving Meru people as their governor.
“This too will come to pass. Gavana ni mama. #MbeuyaNgai,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
Some of her followers have shared encouraging messages for her.
“And Just like they rejected him because he was not of the world so they are rejecting you because you follow the lord’s footsteps. But he prayed for us and said “dear father, I pray that you may not take them out of the world but you protect them from the evil one”. So God is fighting for us because our God does not sleep or slumber. Be blessed,” one commented on her post.
Others however had divergent opinions, some claiming that she had the chance to redeem herself but failed to to so.
“It won’t. This will take you home. God has given you many chances to redeem yourself. It’s done and dusted,” a netizen said.
This is the third time that has been impeached. She was first impeached in December 2022 and secondly on October 2023, with the senate dismissing both attempts.
