Kakamega County Governor Fernandez Barasa flagged off several teams that will be representing the county at this year’s East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association games in Huye Rwanda.
The teams that qualified for the event from the county are Butere Girls which represent the Basketball team, Kayonzo Boys will be raging the rugby competition, Mwitoti will gear the volleyball girls team, Shenderema will spearhead the football team and badminton.
The Governor congratulated the county team for their brilliance in the Nationals and challenged them to portray the same energy in the East Africa games in Rwanda.
He also reminded them that the event will be a turning point for their sports career if the they show exceptional performance during the event.
“If you play well, you may be lucky to have the opportunity to get a scholarship because of your talent. This is because their will be scouts who are tasked with finding brilliant talents in the events…do your very best because the whole world will be looking at you. The games will be a spin point for greater things,” The Governor said.
The deputy governor Ayub Savula also congratulated the team and wished them success in the competitions.
“I want to wish you nothing but success in the event. The county should also be proud of having a governor that has a passion for sports and games…that is why he shows concerns and puts consideration in sports competition in the county,” said Savula.K
Kakamega County was also privileged to host the ongoing Secondary Schools Sports National Championships that took place in Bhukungu Stadium.
