Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that he stopped drinking alcohol after his wife, Dorcas Rigathi, became a pastor.
According to him, the second lady banned the drinks and he had to agree with her to avoid unnecessary fights.
“Alcohol is not bad, but only the good one, only 2 or 3 to help you sleep, there is no problem. Those who want can drink. A long time ago I used to drink to help me sleep but when my wife became a pastor, she banned alcohol in my house and my plans got ruined but because I can’t fight with her I complied,” he said.
Gachagua admitted that since he quit drinking, all his things have been flowing smoothly, and he is now the deputy president.
“Ever since I stopped drinking, my things are straight and now I am deputy president. I am now here, it came faster after I stopped drinking. If you drink, your head is not very clear. That you drink because of problems but when you wake up in the morning he problems have doubled,” he said.
Gachagua, who was speaking in Murang’a county, however said that what the government was against was the poisonous alcohol that is costing the lives of Kenyans.
“In Kirinyaga, Mwea sub-county, someone who has been taken to court 13 times, he has been freed by the court, they have been bribed. He has sold poison, 14 are dead and 24 others are now blind. We are going to bury them next Saturday,” he said.
The second in command further told off critics who are saying that he has no important roles other than fighting illicit brews.
“This job of protecting 23 lives is it not important? Let me tell you my brothers and sister, if president William Ruto and I had not made a conscious decision to deal with illicit brews in this country and specifically in this region, this whole generation in Mt. Kenya we would have nobody in 10 years,” he said.
