National Assembly’s majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah has commended MPs for impeaching Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking on Monday, the Kikuyu MP noted that the decision was not made because they hate Gachagua but for the good of the country.

“You saw I led the impeachment motion in the National Assembly, I want to commend all the MPs, we did not do that because we hate an individual, we did it because we love the people of Kenya,” Ichung’wah said.

Gachagua was impeached by both the National Assembly and the Senate and his only hope now lies with the Judiciary. Following his impeachment, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki was nominated to the Deputy President position by President William Ruto, with the National Assembly approving the nomination.

There have however been rumours that  Ichung’wah will be replacing Kindiki in the interior docket. The MP has addressed the reports saying he is content with his current position..

“I have heard there are many things that have been said here, one of the politicians has suggested that I should become the Interior CS. But I want to say that I have a job and I don’t want people to get confused,” Ichung’wah said.

“I do not need the job of a minister, I have a job that I was given by Kikuyu constituents and these MPs also gave me a task in the National Assembly, I want to continue with this job so that we can bring development in Rabai and other parts of the country,” he added.
