The 2022 KCSE candidates can now  know that fate in regards to higher studies after the government finally rolled out their names to various public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions.

While officially unveiling the new Higher Education Loan (HELB) funding model on Monday July 31st, Education cabinet secretary Ezekiel Machogu said that the government has successfully placed 285,167 candidates on private universities.

Machogu also revealed that 9673 candidates who had  qualified for degree programs surprisingly chose TVET Institutions.

“285,00 students have been placed in different  public universities. 9673 students qualified for degree programs but instead applied for Tvet institutions.” Machogu said

The education minister further said the placement results for all applications will be posted on the KUCCPS student portal to easy access by everyone.

” 2022 KCSE candidates can access their university placement details by sending an SMS with their Index Number to 20842. No space, No slash” Machogu stated

This comes after the Kenya universities and colleges central placement service (KUCCPS) finalized the exercise after the third revision of course and institution choices closed.

The government has put an end to the automatic government sponsorship to students who directly qualify for universities and TVETS. Instead it has adopted a new model that will see only 45,000 university students and 42,000 Tvet students get  full government scholarship.

” Out of the 2022 Candidates, over 45,000 university students and 42,000 Tvet students categorized as vulnerable and extremely needy students will be fully funded by the government under the new sponsorship model” He said.

The learners will have only one month to prepare as the academic calendars for tertiary institutions are expected to kick off in September.
