The government has published details and faces 35 terrorists linked to the Al-Shabaab-inspired terror attacks in Lamu and the Boni Enclave.
This group comprises Kenyans, Tanzanians, Somalis, Ethiopians, a British national, and a Bangladeshi national.
The Kenyan government has initiated a comprehensive effort to combat the heavily armed terrorists associated with Al-Shabaab militants, who bear significant responsibility for the heinous killings of both civilians and security personnel in the Lamu region, in recent times.
Numerous schemes by Al-Shabaab and its network have been uncovered and thwarted in advance. Nonetheless, a number of attacks have been successful, resulting in the brutal deaths of innocent civilians and security personnel.
Security and intelligence agencies are making an appeal to the public, asking for assistance in providing information that can lead to the apprehension of the suspects.
The individuals being sought are connected with various acts, including the placement of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on local roads, the killing of civilians along the Lamu-Witu-Garsen Highway, the cold-blooded murders of civilians in several locations, and the attack on the American Military Base at Manda Bay on January 5, 2020.
These suspects are ordered to immediately surrender themselves to any police station within Kenya. There will also be a reward for anyone who provides information that would lead to their arrest.
“A substantial cash reward is being offered to any person who provides credible information leading to the arrest of any of the suspects,” Interior CS Kithure Kindiki said.
While the immediate goal is the apprehension or neutralization of these terrorists, additional measures and strategies have been put in place to combat terrorism in Lamu County, the Boni Enclave, and throughout the entire country.
