Despite the government of Kenya in 2017 promising that it will ensure an end to frequent fires in the popular market of Gikomba alongside constructing 20,000 capacity multi-storey market ,the fires have not subsided.
The traders have yet again woken up to counting massive losses due to a fire that broke out in the market early Thursday morning.
According to witnesses who are faulting the government over its speed on the matter, the fire is believed to have emanated from Jua Kali area.
The angry traders are now calling upon the government to come up with a permanent solution to fires that have continuously razed East Africa’s largest open market.
They are also calling upon the government to explain where the 19 Billion allocated to upgrade the market in 2017 went to.
