Murang’a senator Karungo Thangwa came under harsh criticism while seeking clarification from EACC Deputy CEO Abdi Mohamoud, who appeared as a witness in the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at the Senate on Thursday October 17.

After the cross-examination of Abdi, Thangwa sought clarification whether he was part of the conspiracy to kick Gachagua out of office but while concluding he urged him to answer his children instead.

“My question to the witness, you receive a letter from the Health ministry on 11th May 2023 and then in your wisdom you reply  it 16 months later when the CS has even left the office, and that is after the Senate looks into the issue and comes with the report. Are you part of the conspiracy? Don’t answer me answer your children,” he said, with his fellow senators deeming it rude and unfit for the respectable house.

“As a senator, I would not associate myself  with those remarks to a witness appearing before the senate. That should be  expunged from the records of the Senate,” said Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi while his Nakuru counterpart Tabitha Karanja noted, “As a mother I have also felt am hurt by senator Karungo but because it has  been ruled thank you. We had a closed door meeting and we all agreed we are going to behave.”

The speaker Amason Kingi also called out Thangwa and asked him to retract his sttaement.

“Honourable senators when you are given an opportunity to ask a question or seek clarification it is not a moment to get a TikTok clip please this is a very serious matter. That’s unparliamentary and totally out of order proceed to retract that statement failure to which the chair will rule” Kingi said.

Karungo bowed to the pressure.

“Mr Speaker, as I withdraw this session is viewed by everybody, our children too. I retract, I withdraw and please answer me,” he said.
