FormerThika Town Parliamentary aspirant  Francis Gaitho will present himself to the DCI after being termed ‘subject of investigation’.

In a post on his X account, the politician responded to the statement by the DCI saying he is a law-abiding citizen.

“I will be presenting myself at DCI Headquarters, Mazingira House Kiambu Road at 2pm today. Thank you for all the messages of concern. I’m truly humbled. As a law-abiding citizen, I’m currently in-touch with my legal counsel on how to proceed,” Francis Gaitho responded.

However, his followers have cautioned him to be in the company of his lawyers as he presents himself to the police.

Some commended his decision to surrender himself stating it’s how it should always be instead of unnecessary abductions.

“Fearless indeed we love this they should avoid abducting us and tell us to present ourselves and we will go.” CEO Manich an X user commented.

Earlier, Macharia Gaitho, a veteran journalist was abducted and later released police saying it was a mistaken identity.

After his release, the journalist dismissed the NPS’s assertion that his arrest was due to mistaken identity. He plans to file a lawsuit against the police.

The DCI later released a statement regretting the mistake clarifying the arrest was ‘meant for Francis Gaitho who is our subject of investigation’.

“The National Police Service would like to clarify to the public that this morning, we arrested journalist Macharia Gaitho in a case of mistaken identity, meant for the arrest of Francis Gaitho who is our subject of investigation,” the statement read.

The DCI reiterated that it was ‘a mistake’ and ‘as a Service’ they don’t target journalists in any way.
