Maalim

Daadab member of parliament Farah Maalim was ordered to leave a five-star hotel in Mombasa on Friday by the management of the hotel after an uproar on social media.

Jimi Kariuki, the managing director of Sarovah Hotels and Resorts Kenya, made the statement after X users criticized the resort for hosting Maalim.

A netizen tweeted,

“Excuse you @SarovaWhitesandAsking for me and many many Kenyans, why are you hosting a man who openly said that he would willingly kill 5000 peaceful protesters daily for simply exercising their constitutional right?”

The controversial politician was asked to leave, as the managing director of the luxury hotel disclosed, ending his stay on Friday, July 12.

The tweet went on to say that the luxury hotel brand wouldn’t associate itself  with someone like that.

“He is no longer a guest at our hotel. We asked him to leave the hotel earlier in the day. We do not in any way condone his inflammatory and threatening statements against Kenyans and will not associate our brand with such a person “Jimi wrote

Speaking in a Somali dialect, Maalim said in the undated film that he would have killed 5,000 young protestors every day if he had been president of Kenya.

The legislator was criticizing Kenyan Gen Zs for trying to march to the State House during the anti-finance Bill 2024 demonstrations, according to an authorized video translation.

“God forbid if I was president I would have slaughtered them, 5,000 of them daily. Serious, there is no two ways about it,” he said.

Maalim has defended himself, claiming that he was unfairly portrayed in the video through editing.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) subsequently summoned him to clarify his controversial remarks.
