Cabinet

In a post that seamed to resonate with many Kenyans, Polycarp Otieno, popularly known as Fancy Fingers from the renowned music band Sauti Sol, has suggested for the vetting of new Cabinet Secretaries.

This follows President William Ruto’s  decision on 11th of July to dissolve the current cabinet, retaining only his Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua and the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi.

Taking to social media, Fancy Fingers posed a critical question: “Is there a way we can all vet these new CSs to be appointed??”

He further emphasized the need for the public involvement in governance, stating, “We want to be involved in everything until our country is where it is supposed to be.”

The musician’s call for participatory governance has been met with  a lot of support from many Kenyans. Among the supportive voices was The Black Chain, who commented,

“Kenya is ripe for an E-participation platform. We have proved able in matters KENYA.”

Also to support him was Muthoni Sendayo who thought  it was wise for the president to ask the people first before deciding on the matter. “Yes!!! Asifanye kitu bila kutuuliza kwanza”

Others suggested for a link to be created for Kenyans to vote for the new cabinet secretaries. “Watume link we  vote for them”

Fancy Fingers’ proposal shows a growing desire among citizens for greater transparency and involvement in the political process while the response to his suggestion indicates a strong public demand for mechanisms that allow citizens to directly participate in the important governmental decisions.

With the nation awaiting for the appointment of new Cabinet Secretaries, the idea of public vetting, fueled by voices like Fancy Fingers, could potentially shape the future of governance and politics in Kenya.

Many people were seen to be pleased with  president William Ruto’s decision to dissolve his cabinet secretaries with most of the credit going to the youths dubbed the “Gen Zs ” and  the “Millennials” who fearlessly protested for good governance.
