Eric Omondi has maintained that the Kenyan entertainment industry is doing very poorly noting that comedians and musicians are now abandoning the industry to join politics instead of helping to fix the problems.

“The state of our entertainment industry is very bad. Our music, our comedy, so I feel like instead of them staying in and helping us build it they are looking for shortcuts. Musicians are not politicians. Have you ever heard of Uhuru (Kenyatta) going to the studio to record music,” Omondi said in an exclusive interview with Nairobi News.

The comedian discouraged artists from joining politics but noted that there are some exceptions like Jalang’o.

“In Kenya, everyone plays a very vital role so artists must not join politics. There are only a few like Jalang’o who we need in politics to push our agenda. The rest should just go to the studio and record,” the self proclaimed President of Comedy said.

He added that he has no plans of joining politics and explained how artists can get involved with politics.

“Artistes can be involved in politics by endorsing or participating in campaigns but they cannot be politicians,” Eric Omondi said.

Over 10 musicians, actors and comedians declared their interests in the 2022 general elections. Some successfully made it to office whereas others were trounced in the August 9 elections.
