Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu told off Kotex Kenya after the company denied being in partnership with her, to supply tampons in schools.
In a social media post, Karen had claimed that she had a project for girls in slum areas, and in partnership with Kotex Kenya, together with her foundation, they would educate girls on how to use tampons .
This information didn’t sit right with Netizens many claiming it’s inappropriate for her to be talking about tampons where as girls can’t afford basic menstruation towels.
Also, in response to her post, Kotex labelled her post as fake, revealing that they were not in any contact with the senator about the matter.
Following the clarification, Nyamu however told off Kotex saying that communicated with their representatives. According to her, the company’s clarification came as a result of being trolled because of their association with her.
“@ kortexkenya don’t be chickens a few hate comments here and there and hours later you post this lol .so what exactly is fake you had Enos and Cindy in your office this week and we are waiting for communication on the best discounts you will give us .if you look at my comments there is a lot of misconception on tampons and this is a great opportunity to demystify and expand your market those threatening you aren’t even your clients ,” she wrote
In a separate post, Nyamu pointed out that Kortex was distancing itself from her because of her political stand, forgetting that she was also a human.
“Sometimes companies forget that political figures are also people and what we do to impact the community is bigger that ourselves, As for Kotex Kenya i feel sorry for the backlash you had to endure yesterday due to my political stand at a time when political temperatures in the country are hot, forcing you to make the statement you made. Our aim is not to set you up so we will let it rest there ”she said.
The mother of three added that people shouldn’t be forced to agree with her political affiliation rather focus on what she is ready to do for the society.
“You don’t have to agree with my political affiliation but you can appreciate this noble cause my foundation has taken up to expose our girls to alternative feminine hygiene products like tampons and period ,” Karen explained.
“You have seen me and my foundation pledge to causes and you have seen me on the ground delivering you have also seen us take up causes that have benefited society ,you have seen me announce projects that have been successful,”she further stated.
Karen concluded her rant by pointing out that she only seeks God ,and if she had listened to her haters she won’t be where she is right now .
“And to remind you that if I had listened to my critics and trolls a year ago I wouldn’t be where I am I only consult the word of God period.”
