Didmus Barasa

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa was among those MPs who voted yes to the unpopular Finance Bill 2024, which saw Kenyans from different parts of the country take to streets in protests.

Just like his counterparts who have found themselves on the wrong side of their constituents, Barasa has been trending online since announcing that he would be in Kimilili on Saturday June 29 afternoon for an event.

Kenyans called upon Kimilili residents to teach the MP a lesson for going against the will of the people. Some hoped that the MP will be handled like his Webuye East counterpart Martin Wanyonyi who was whipped by a local at a function.

A video surfaced online of residents bringing down a perimeter wall believed to be of the homestead of the lawmaker, with Kenyans hailing them for not failing them.

There was also a photo of the MP seemingly fleeing, netizens believing that his locals were executing the mission. Barasa has however taken to social media to prove the context in which the photo was taken.

Apparently, he was playing with some children, and the viral photo seems to have been edited, to remove a child who was captured with  him.

“Wishing you all a happy Sunday,” he captioned the photos.

During the Saturday’s event, while speaking to his locals, Barasa also gave out his coat, shirt and shoes, some believing that it was his way of as apologizing for supporting the Finance Bill.

Barasa expressed gratitude to his locals for supporting him since his time in Jubilee. He went to inform them about the goodies he has in store for them.

“You have seen the president has formed a panel to handle the issues of Gen Z. When you look at me, I am also a Gen Z. I am a senior Gen Z. In the past two months, just as you took me to Nairobi, I didn’t go to sleep. Even if the Finance Bill has been rejected, I want to tell my Kimilili people that the 40 million will not be touched because it is already in our accounts and the Huduma Centre will be renovated in two weeks,” he said.
