Davji

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Davji Atellah has denied the suspension of the Occupy MoH protests scheduled to happen today.

This comes after a post on KMPDU’s official X account said taht they had suspended the planned demonstrations that were set to begin on Monday.

According to Atellah, the union’s X account has been compromised adding that they are doing everything they can to regain control over it.

“Dear Kenyans, Reports circulating to the effect that #OccupyMoH has been suspended is false. The union handle has been compromised and we are trying our best to gain control of it and clean.” He wrote on his X account.

He has moved on to confirm that the protests are still on urging people to still keep up the fight in changing and cleaning the system.

“We must overhaul the system including those that have hacked the union handles. We reman strong. We remain focused. Tukutane MoH” Atellah continued to say.

The statement on KMPDU’s account has however been deleted. The statement had indicated that the suspension of the demos was as a result of “ongoing talks with the Ministry of Health”.

“We are suspending the occupation of Afya House. This decision comes as a result of ongoing discussions and commitments made towards ensuring all medical interns are posted in accordance with the 2017 CBA.” the deleted statement read in part.

“We remain vigilant and committed to achieving fair outcomes for all interns,” it continued to read.

The doctors want the government to ensure all doctor interns are posted as per the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the ministry.

On Thursday, July 4, Atellah wrote to the Nairobi Regional Police Commander to provide security to the doctors who would be occupying the Ministry of Health headquarters starting Monday 8 am, until all intern doctors received their letters of as earlier agreed with the ministry.
