On Saturday last week, the country woke up to the devastating news that comedian Fred Omondi was no more.
Fred was known by many due to the various artistic works he engaged in including comedy and performing arts.
The news about his demise has left many in disbelief, some still finding it hard to believe he is no more Fred was set to host an event at BVB Lounge on the day of his demise.
According to the police report, the accident that claimed Fred’s life happened near Caltex Petrol station on Kangundo Road.
The report further said that the bus was heading to Nairobi CBD from Kayole while the bodaboda carrying the comedian was heading in the opposite direction and was on the wrong side of the road
As a result, the rider collided head-on with the speeding bus. The comedian was rushed to hospital but did not make it.
Eric Omondi, his elder brother, has however contested autopsy results claiming that the government had a hand in his brother’s death, and that is why it attempted to silence him when he staged demos on a horse outside parliament buildings.
To commemorate Fred and also raise fund for his proper send off, an event was organized by the country’s top comedians at Carnivore Simba Salon, where Churchill show used to be held.
Various comedians, artists, celebrities and politicians who were friends to Fred and his family were in attendance. They include former footballer Mc Donald Mariga and his brother Harry Wanyama ,Business man Aziz Awali and CEO of Bonfire Adventures Simon Kabu.
Kabu even offered to cater for transport for anyone who would want to attend the burial of the late Fred Omondi
There will also be a memorial service at CITAM Valley Road on June 27, 2024, at 11 am.
According to the funeral committee, his body will be airlifted to Kisumu on June 29, 2024, and will be buried the following day at his home in Sega, Siaya County.
