In a stunning revelation that has sent shockwaves through the online community, Brian Chira, a prominent TikToker, disclosed that he has been suspended from Kabarak University. The suspension, he claims, was attributed to his online activities, which the institution deemed inconsistent with their esteemed motto.
“Azziad got me arrested on Thursday, that is when cops to school and called the CSO at around noon. I was summoned to school and given a suspension letter that says I have been suspended from Kabarak university. I have been suspended right now because Kabarak’s motto is Biblical perspective, Education within a Biblical perspective so Chira has not been doing his online thing within the Biblical perspective issue of the school and am not ashamed to say this,” Chira said in a candid video interview with Andrew Kibe.
Kabarak University, known for its commitment to academic excellence and nurturing moral values. The university’s decision has ignited a heated debate on social media, with supporters of the TikToker expressing their solidarity while others question the boundaries of freedom of expression in the digital realm.
The news come to light at a time when Chira is facing legal troubles. The 23-year old was arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts on Monday morning where he was charged with defaming fellow TikTok sensation, Azziad Nasenya. The court proceedings led to his release on a cash bail of Ksh 50,000, with an alternative bond set at Ksh 100,000 after he denied charges.
Outside the court premises, Chira’s legal representative, Michael Masinde, clarified that charges against the TikTok star fall under Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act. Despite the gravity of the allegations, Chira vehemently pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The case of Brian Chira raises crucial questions about the responsibilities of social media influencers and the potential consequences they may face for their online behaviour. As the influence of digital platforms continues to grow, striking a balance between self-expression and adhering to societal norms remains an ongoing challenge.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the TikTok community and the public at large will closely monitor the case, hoping for a fair resolution that considers the complexities of the digital age and the broader implications for online freedom and individual accountability.
