Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a grade 8 pupil from Joy Gardens Primary School in Tena-Umoja area who allegedly jumped from the school’s rooftop on March 8.

Police who visited the scene where the incident occurred said the boy’s body was found on the first floor of the seven-storey building that houses the school.

The investigating police say they are treating the incident as a murder unless fresh details emerge. This decision is arrived at after discovering that the injuries found on the body were inconsistent with the fall.

“We are among others investigating murder. The injuries on the body would have been consistent with the fall given he is said to have fallen off from the roof top of the structure,” an officer said.

In a bid to come to the bottom of the matter, police are holding four school officials at the Buruburu Police station.

The four, including two directors, the head teacher and a teacher in charge of the boarding section at the Primary School, were arrested on Friday night after the deceased allegedly jumped to his death.

Buruburu DCIO said the four will assist investigators in establishing the circumstances under which the deceased met his death.

“They have given so many versions of what happened. For now, we are not able to ascertain who is telling the truth. That is why they have to accompany us to the station so that we can zero down to the incident report,” he said.

Another senior officer cognizant of the incident said the accounts given by the directors were not adding up leading up to an internal investigation being conducted as it is alleged that the deceased had been summoned and interrogated by a teacher earlier in the day.

He further says that it is still unclear on events that happened between when the interrogation and 7:38pm when the boy allegedly jumped.

“For now all these remain speculations and investigators will establish the real occurrences. We have obtained all the CCTV footage and this will give us a key piece of evidence into the matter,” he said.

The distraught parents to the boy have asked the investigating authorities to expedite investigations into the matter.
