A petitioner recently moved to parliament seeking to have TikTok banned in the country, saying that it contributes to erosion of culture and promotion of immorality.
The petitioner, Bob Ndolo(an Executive Officer of Bridget Connect Consultancy ) moved to parliament on Tuesday, urging it to move with speed in banning the popular social media App as it was exposing the youth to explicit sexual content.
While commenting on the petition, Majority leader Kimani Ichungwa noted that Ndolo’s concern was valid but banning the App totally was similar to fighting technology. At the same time, he pointed out that TikTok has provided employment opportunities to many of the young people.
“The petitioner should come to seek on how to regulate the usage of the app, age group and content uploaded for a certain age to watch, outright banning would be killing careers of many young people who are earning a living through it.These apps are part of the government effort where young men and women can create content for use in TikTok and snap chat to earn a living,”the majority leader said.
