In a shocking turn of events, the prime suspect in the murder of Nairobi Hospital’s Finance Director, Eric Maigo, has pleaded guilty to the murder charges.
Anne Adhiambo, the accused, made her plea during a court appearance before High Court Judge Kaanyi Kimondo. This is after the prosecution’s assertion that she is an adult of sound mind.
The court has now referred the case to the Kibera Law Court. Adhiambo will be remanded at Langata Women Prison as legal proceedings continue.
Eric Maigo, a highly regarded figure in Nairobi Hospital’s administration, tragically lost his life in a murder that sent shockwaves through the community last month. He was lifeless body was discovered at his residence in Woodley estate in mid September, with 25 stab wounds.
Adhiambo was linked to the murder case after a CCTV footage of her jumping a security wall in the neighbourhood surfaced.
The suspect, Anne Adhiambo, who had been apprehended and charged in connection with the crime, had initially maintained her innocence. However, during the plea hearing, she made the unexpected decision to plead guilty.
The court proceedings were marked by a solemn atmosphere as Adhiambo entered her plea. The judge presiding over the case emphasized the gravity of the charges, ensuring that the accused fully comprehended the consequences of her admission of guilt. The court also granted Adhiambo time to consult with her legal counsel, acknowledging the significance of this critical phase of the trial.
“Nakupa muda zaidi Ndio uweze kuongea na wakili wako ambaye Yuko mahakamani mzungumze wakuelezee vizuri kile unachoambia mahakama,” the judge said.
With the suspect’s admission of guilt, the case has taken a new direction, leaving the court to deliberate on the appropriate legal actions.
The Nairobi Hospital community and the family of Eric Maigo have been eagerly awaiting justice since his untimely demise.
