Renowned businesswoman and philanthropist Akothee found herself at the centre of a controversy after her mentorship invitation to Ngiya Girls High School was abruptly revoked.
The senior principal, Hellen Juma, initially extended the invitation to the mother of five to address high school girls during a talent show organised as part of the school’s charity activities on August 6. However, the situation took an unexpected turn as protests from parents and alumni led to the cancellation of the invitation.
The cancellation sparked discussions both within the school community and beyond. Akothee’s organization, the Akothee Foundation, had been sought after for its potential to gather support from like-minded companies to further the school’s initiative. This outreach demonstrated the innovative approach that schools are taking to secure resources for their programs.
In response to the cancellation, Akothee showcased her resilience and grace. In a heartfelt message, she expressed her gratitude to Senior Principal Hellen Juma.
“Thank you very much, Madam Helen, may The almighty bless your heart. I met you in Sinyolo Girls and you stole my heart with your kindness, you made my work of admitting the less fortunate easy, even though I was late thank you very much for helping me support the vulnerable, you saw it fit to help you walk the journey of the underprivileged, but there is a way the universe works for us,” she said on social media.
The artist also emphasised that while the cancellation might have brought global attention to Ngiya Girls High School, she remained committed to supporting causes that uplift society.
Additionally, she playfully called out the person she thought was behind it “To the Arch Bishop, I understand where you are coming from, continue praying for us sinners, so we could all meet in heaven on that day In Jesus’ name Amen ”
