Adelle Onyango left her lucrative job at Kiss FM 5 years ago to venture into podcasting, which was a very new concept in the country then.

The popular former radio host started the Legally Clueless podcast and her main aim was not to make her more money. According to her, she quit Kiss FM because she was done with  traditional media.

Upon quitting, she came across information about podcasts and found the concept intriguing and enjoyable.

“When I started, I had never listened to a podcast before, but I was quitting my show at Kiss FM, at that point, I was kind of done with media Then someone close to me sent me podcasts, the more I read about it the more accessible it was even in terms of equipment and so I thought why not?” Adelle Onyango said.

She further said that she realised  podcasting would provide her an opportunity to share her experiences following her departure from a high-profile job.

“Share what I am going through after leaving this flashy job. That is talk about the emotions I am going through while in the process of starting my own thing after employment,” she added.

Adelle also said that the when starting her podcast, she was not worried whether it would become successful or not.

“I didn’t care much if it was going to fail or not. I just kind of enjoyed the process and now it became what it is today,” she said.

She went ahead to address the topic of monetising podcasts, stating that it is indeed possible, although individuals may have different paths to achieving it.

“In terms of making money, I think everybody’s journey is different. I have been able to build a new media business around my podcast. Generally, it depends on what your goal is but there are ways to earn money either directly or indirectly from your podcast or creating tools around it. You must be willing to create value around it, in terms of the production, and time, so that you can have a solid quality product that people can enjoy listening to and the advertisers will want to sit on,” she said.

Adelle concluded that having a high-quality product will attract advertisers to collaborate with podcasters, leading to the opportunity to monetise the podcast and generate income in the process
