Dr. Dan Gikonyo from Karen Hospital where former DP Rigathi Gachagua was admitted on Thursday afternoon has confirmed that he is in a stable condition.

According to him, Gachagua was subjected to a series of tests just to ensure that he was not  suffering a heart attack after encountering chest pains

“He came in at about 3 0’clock with a lot of chest pains. When you come to hospital with chest pains the first concern is whether it is anything to do with heart attack and our job is to ensure you don’t have…as you may be aware any adult has the possibility of heart attack that is why we have taken him in through various types of investigations, blood tests ECGs to find out if there is any danger., Right now he is in a stable condition. The pain is less , blood pressure is okay but we are still carrying on with investigations.0

Dr. Gikonyo noted that adults above the age of 45 can encounter heart problems especially those with high blood pressure and diabetes as well as those who have the history of the disease in their family line.

“If you are over 50 you have issues with blood pressure, diabetes, excess weight you can get a heart attack, that is why we tell people all the time to a    lifestyle changes. He doesn’t smoke which is lucky that is also a factor,” he said.

He noted that Gachagua will remain under observation for the next 2-3 days

“When you come with chest pains in any hospital in this country or in the world you will be held captive for at least 48-72 hours.

Gachagua encountered chest pains at the time he was supposed to provide his testimony against his impeachment.
